How to get started with therapy
I’m glad you’re here. Here’s how to set up an appointment.
Booking Your Appointment
The Agency uses *Therapy Appointment as the main platform for billing, data information gathering, and telehealth appointments. The Agency will email a Therapy Appointment portal link that needs to be clicked on within 48 hours of the Agency emailing it. Upon clicking the link, you will create a username and password. You will fill out all intake paperwork, enter your insurance information, enter your demographic information and if required enter a credit card for any copays due. Please go to the contact page to send a request for services.
*Therapy Appointment is a HIPPA compliant and secure professional platform I use to manage your appointments, insurance, payments and your personal information.
Telehealth / Online Therapy
This is an incredibly convenient way to conduct your therapy sessions, simply log into your Therapy Appointment portal and the dashboard, you will show your appointment. Simply click on the video camera icon and it will take you to the HIPPA compliant zoom meeting room. With telehealth, you don't have to be in Petoskey or the surrounding areas to be seen. I work with clients all over the State of Michigan including the Upper Peninsula.
In-Person Therapy
I also offer in-person therapy sessions in my Petoskey, MI office. My office is conveniently located in downtown Petoskey. For directions or questions, please visit my Contact page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need therapy?
While you may have been able to cope with the challenges you’ve encountered, it’s always a good idea to seek extra support when you need it. In fact, when you realize you need a helping hand, you’re taking responsibility admirably by facing the challenges you've experienced in life. Therapy will give you long-term benefits and the tools you need to overcome whatever difficulties you've been confronted with.
How can therapy help me?
Therapists provide support and help you find relief for trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, stress, and relationship problems. Counseling is extremely valuable in managing personal growth, relationships, and the many challenges faced in daily life.
What happens during therapy?
The first appointment will be an assessment. During this appointment, we will discuss your family history, your growth and development, substance use, current physical health, and reasons you have come for therapy and what you hope to gain from our sessions. Therapy may be different depending on the goals and the needs of the person. Our time will be tailored to meet your needs.
In general, we will talk about your well-being and day to day life. Next, if you're comfortable, I'll invite you to share any events from the past that have affected you. Finally, we will talk about what we'd like to accomplish as we move forward in our sessions. Ultimately, I want to help you bring what you’ve discovered or learned during therapy back into your daily life.
Will our conversations remain confidential?
Confidentiality is a key component of therapy. What you discuss in a session will not be shared with anyone else. If I do need to break confidentiality I will discuss with you why I need to report what you have disclosed and to who I will be disclosing the information to. By law, I cannot release any session information without your written consent, except in the following situations:
- I suspect there is past or present abuse or neglect of children, adults or elders.
- I suspect you are in danger of harming yourself or you have threatened to harm another person.
